From Cherry to Cup

from cherry to cup

From the fertile hills of Burundi to the world's finest cups, every step matters. At Trade and Export Company, exceptional coffee begins long before it reaches your cup. Every bean follows a carefully managed journey that combines nature, expertise, and rigorous quality control to deliver the finest Burundi coffee to international markets.

Cultivation

Cultivation

The journey starts on the fertile hills of Burundi, where coffee trees thrive at altitudes ranging from 1,500 to over 2,000 meters above sea level. Rich volcanic soils, abundant rainfall, and favorable temperatures create ideal conditions for producing high-quality Arabica coffee. Our partner farmers dedicate their knowledge and passion to nurturing healthy coffee trees throughout the year, ensuring the development of premium coffee cherries.

Harvesting

Harvesting

Only ripe, red coffee cherries are handpicked during the harvest season. Selective harvesting ensures that only the best cherries are collected, preserving the quality and consistency of the final product. This meticulous process is essential to developing the distinctive flavor profile for which Burundi coffee is renowned.

Pulping

Pulping

Shortly after harvesting, the cherries are delivered to our washing and pulping stations located in Burundi's key coffee-growing regions. The outer skin and fruit pulp are carefully removed to reveal the coffee beans inside. Rapid processing helps preserve freshness and prevents unwanted fermentation.

Why Burundi coffee?

A Unique Origin with Exceptional Potential

Burundi Coffee Origin

Burundi may be one of the smallest countries in Africa, but it is home to some of the continent's most remarkable coffees. Grown on high-altitude hills, nourished by fertile volcanic soils, and cultivated with care by dedicated farmers, Burundi coffee offers a unique combination of quality, authenticity, and character.

Premium Arabica Grown at High Altitudes

Premium Arabica

Most of Burundi's coffee is Red Bourbon Arabica, a variety celebrated worldwide for its superior cup quality. Cultivated between 1,500 and 2,000 meters above sea level, the beans develop slowly, allowing them to accumulate rich sugars and complex flavors. The result is a coffee with bright acidity, balanced sweetness, floral aromas, and notes of citrus, berries, honey, and chocolate.

Exceptional Processing Standards

Processing Standards

Quality does not end at the farm. At Trade and Export Company, freshly harvested coffee cherries are carefully processed through our washing and pulping stations located in key producing regions of Burundi. Our modern facilities and strict quality-control procedures ensure consistency, traceability, and compliance with international standards.
